Curator Noel Smith Invited to Brazilian Art Immersion Program

Thursday, October 27, 2016

Curator of Latin American and Caribbean Art Noel Smith has been invited to the Brazilian art immersion program Latitude - Platform for Brazilian Art Galleries Abroad.

At Latitude, Smith will experience the world of Brazilian art and its people while fostering connections for future projects and cultural exchange.

The program is a partnership between the Brazilian Association of Contemporary Art (ABACT), a nonprofit working to advance the economic and cultural impact of Brazilian art, and the Brazilian Agency for Export and Investment Promotion (Apex-Brasil), an agency working to promote Brazilian products and services abroad.

Latitude, created in 2007, is located in six Brazilian states and represents more than 1000 contemporary artists. Latitude galleries account for a significant portion of Brazilian art exports, and the program has invited approximately 150 international guests to Brazil to date.

Smith will also have the opportunity to see the 32nd Bienal de São Paulo exhibitions. Since 1951, the Bienal de São Paulo has presented 67,000 artworks by 14,000 artists from 160 countries.

To find out more on Latitude, see the ABACT's video of the September 2013 Art Immersion Trip.
