Mental Health Recovery

Mental health recovery is a dynamic shift in behavioral healthcare that emphasizes management and quality of life for individuals seeking/in treatment. The Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) has established a working definition of recovery that is defined as, "a process of change through which individuals improve their health and wellness, live self-directed lives, and strive to reach their full potential" with the belief that anyone can recover and/or manage their condition(s) successfully. Mental health recovery is built on an individual's strengths, talents, coping abilities, resources, and inherent values with dimensions that support recovery related to health, home, purpose, and community.
