Dr. Steve Lang specializes in the assessment of teacher performance. Throughout his career, Lang has developed batteries of instruments to measure teacher dispositions, knowledge, and skills which help determine how well teachers collaborate, cooperate and communicate with parents, colleagues and most importantly their students. He is a leader in the use of the Rasch model of item response theory in measurement, which he has applied in the assessment of teacher performance, preschool readiness and literacy.

Lang teaches undergraduate and graduate courses that focus on educational testing and research design. He has co-authored a book on methods to assess teacher disposition. Lang also has experience working in the public school and university systems in South Carolina, Georgia and Florida.

Beyond academia, Lang is an avid sailor who founded the University of South Florida sailing team in 1993 and served as head coach until 2000.
