Educational Objectives

We have Program Educational Objectives (PEOs) for our Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Technology, and Cybersecurity programs. PEOs are broad statements that describe the career and professional accomplishments that the program is preparing graduates to achieve. These objectives describe the expected accomplishments of our graduates during the several years following graduation.

Computer Science Program Educational Objectives

Objective 1: Our graduates will apply their knowledge and skills to succeed in their careers and/or obtain advanced degrees.

Objective 2: Our graduates will function ethically and responsibly, and will remain informed and involved as full participants in our profession and society.

Objective 3: Our graduates will creatively solve problems, communicate effectively, and successfully function in multi-disciplinary teams.

Objective 4: Our graduates will apply principles and practices of computing grounded in mathematics and science to successfully complete software-related projects to meet customer business objectives and/or productively engage in research.

Computer Engineering Program Educational Objectives

Objective 1: Our graduates will apply their knowledge and skills to succeed in their careers and/or obtain advanced degrees.

Objective 2: Our graduates will function ethically and responsibly, and will remain informed and involved as full participants in our profession and society.

Objective 3: Our graduates will creatively solve problems, communicate effectively, and successfully function in multi-disciplinary teams.

Objective 4: Our graduates will apply principles and practices of computing grounded in mathematics and science to successfully complete hardware and/or software-related engineering projects to meet customer business objectives and/or productively engage in research.

Information Technology Program Educational Objectives

Objective 1: Our graduates will apply their knowledge and skills to succeed in their careers and/ or obtain an advanced degree.

Objective 2: Our graduates will function ethically and responsibly, and will remain informed and involved as full participants in our profession and society.

Objective 3: Our graduates will creatively solve problems, communicate effectively, and successfully function in multi-disciplinary teams.

Objective 4: Our graduates will apply principles and practices of information technology to identify, implement, and maintain cost-effective technologies and apply fundamental computing knowledge to solve information technology problems.

Cybersecurity Program Educational Objectives

Objective 1: Our graduates will apply their knowledge and skills to succeed in their careers and/ or obtain an advanced degree.

Objective 2: Our graduates will function ethically and responsibly, and will remain informed and involved as full participants in our profession and society.

Objective 3: Our graduates will creatively solve problems, communicate effectively, and successfully function in multi-disciplinary teams.

Objective 4: Our graduates will develop and apply principles and practices of cybersecurity to protect computing infrastructure, data, process, and people from adversaries and exposure.

Our Computer Science and Computer Engineering PEOs were revised in Fall 2006, Spring 2007, Spring 2011, Spring 2012, and Fall 2018 with input from constituents (Tampa Bay area employers, department faculty, and department advisory board members). Our Information Technology PEOs were defined in Summer 2014. Our Cybersecurity PEOs were defined in Fall 2018. Our PEOs are reviewed every year at our annual Advisory Board meeting. The most recent review was held in September 2018. Changes were suggested at this most recent review and are reflected in the above.
