Dr. Jing Wang

Jing Wang, PhD, instructor of computer science and engineering, was awarded the 2020 WLP Dr. Kathleen Moore Faculty Excellence Award. The USF Women in Leadership & Philanthropy (WLP) program aims at “developing the intellectual and leadership potential of women through the promotion of mentorship, philanthropy, community engagement and scholarly excellence,” and is open for all USF faculty whose focus is on issues affecting women.

Wang has recently been named Director of the department’s Broadening Participation in Computing (BPC) program. Here, Wang is involved in the important mission of recruiting and mentoring women in computer science and engineering in the effort to address the longstanding underrepresentation of various populations in the computing field.

Wang is also the advisor for the now 300+ member student organization Women in Computer Science and Engineering (WiCSE), which she started in 2013. Under her leadership, WiCSE performs outreach presentations at local K-12 schools and at the annual USF College of Engineering Expo. Wang created the Industry Mentoring Luncheon program to connect CSE women students with local women tech leaders for networking and career opportunities. She also organizes trips for women students to diversity focused conferences such as Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing and Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing.
