Sarah Garcia receives SMART scholarship

CSE graduate student Sarah Garcia received the SMART scholarship. This scholarship was “established as a concentrated effort to enhance the Department of Defense (DoD) workforce with talented, innovative and brilliant scientists, engineers and researchers.”

Garcia is working toward her Ph.D. in computer science under the supervision of Assistant Professor Marvin Andujar. Her research is in augmented reality and collaborative environments. In previous years she was named a Sloan Scholar, GEM Doctoral Fellow, Google Scholar, NSF FGLSAMP Fellow, and McKnight Doctoral Fellow. 

The SMART scholarship provides Garcia with full tuition and coverage of education-related expenses, an annual stipend, summer research internships, mentorship, and guaranteed employment placement at a DoD facility upon degree completion. Garcia will be working for the U.S. Army Combat Capabilities Development Command - Soldier Center in Orlando, Florida upon completion of her doctorate.
