September 12, 2018

Department of Computer Science and Engineering alumni, Christopher "Gus" Eggert, was promoted to Senior Software Engineer at Amazon Web Services. Gus earned his Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science in 2014 from the University of South Florida (USF) and was named the Spring 2014 Outstanding Graduate.

Prior to being a Senior Software Engineer at Amazon Web Services, Gus was a non-traditional student with a wife and son. His academic journey at USF was atypical compared to the average student. It would have been easy for him to give up, but with hard work, persistence, and help from advisors and faculty in the College of Engineering, he is now enjoying a successful career at Amazon.

Regarding studies, Gus's advice to students is to seek out and master the fundamentals. Once students internalize the fundamentals, then it will become an advantage in both academics and the industry. Look for opportunities such as undergraduate research, internships, independent studies, graduate courses, and clubs to obtain a unique college experience, to deepen knowledge of the field, and to make lasting friendships. Take advantage of the opportunities USF has to offer, and develop relationships with the advisors and faculty so they can help you find opportunities, scholarships, and funding.

Congratulations on your achievement, Gus! Connect with Gus on LinkedIn or email him here.
