Whitehatters Place Third in A-ISAC Collegiate Aviation-themed Capture The Flag (CTF) Challenge

On Wednesday, September 19th, USF Department of Computer Science and Engineering student members of the Whitehatters Computer Security Club participated in A-ISAC Collegiate Cyber Challenge hosted at the Aviation ISAC Annual Summit (inaugural CTF event). This event happened at the Gaylord Palms Convention Center in Kissimmee, FL.

Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University created the aviation-themed CTF competition focusing on capturing "hackers on a plane". Industry mentors and observers included American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Symantec, and the Department of Energy National Labs.

The Whitehatters team, Farooq Shaikh, Kevin Orr, and Kevin Dennis, placed third with 1560 points and each member received a $900 cash prize, beating teams from Florida International University, University of Tampa, St. Petersburg College, and Embry-Riddle University.
