BIOGRAPHY:
Nate is a founder and former president of the Military Writers Guild (and is currently serving as the Chairman of the Advisory Board), as well as a founder of The Strategy Bridge and the Defense Entrepreneurs Forum. He is a managing editor at the British Journal for Military History, on the editorial advisory board for the Journal of Military History, a senior mentor for the Project on International Peace and Security (PIPS) at the College of William & Mary, an affiliate at the College of William & Mary's Whole of Government Center, a Non-Resident Senior Fellow at the Atlantic Council’s Indo-Pacific Security Initiative, a Non-Resident Research Fellow at the Duke University American Grand Strategy Program, a Non-Resident Adjunct Fellow at the Pacific Forum, and a member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Nate was a Visiting Fellow at the Australian Strategic Policy Institute and a Non-Resident Fellow at the Modern War Institute at West Point. He is the co-editor and author of the book Redefining the Modern Military: The Intersection of Profession and Ethics, the editor and author of On Strategy: A Primer, and published his most recent book, Orchestrating Power: The American Associational State in the First World War, with

Cornell University Press. Nate is currently researching a new book focused on Cold War Taiwan.

Nate earned a Ph.D. in History from Duke University in 2022 while also serving as a Goodpaster Scholar. Previously, he received master’s degrees in Public Administration from Harvard University and the University of Kansas, and a B.A. in Anthropology from the University of Arizona.
