BIOGRAPHY:
Marta Gębska, PhD, is an Associate Professor at War Studies University (WSU) in Warsaw,
Poland, where she currently serves as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the National
Security Faculty and Head of Postgraduate Studies on International Military Affairs.
She was awarded the title of Associate Professor in 2023 for her overall scientific
and organizational achievements and for her monograph The Economic Dimension of Security
of the Three Seas Initiative States: Theory and Practice (2022).
Gębska earned her PhD in Economics from the College of Economics and Social Sciences at the Warsaw School of Economics in 2005, defending a thesis entitled Global Education Problems in the World Bank Policy. Her academic career has been dedicated to advancing research and teaching in security studies and international political economy.
Since May 2024, Gębska has served as Vice Dean for Academic Affairs, overseeing scientific conference organization, supporting faculty development, and ensuring institutional research performance. In 2025, she became a member of the Senate of War Studies University. She represents WSU in the European Security and Defence College (ESDC) in Brussels as a member of its Executive Academic Board, where she helps develop training programs and organizes international courses for governmental and diplomatic representatives across the EU.
Previously, she headed the Department of International Security and Diplomacy (2022–2024) within the Institute of Strategic Studies at WSU and has served in multiple academic leadership roles since 2011. She has lectured widely in Poland and abroad, including in Sweden, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Bulgaria, North Macedonia, Portugal, Hungary, Türkiye, and the United Kingdom.
Her international experience includes a research internship at the World Bank in Washington, DC (2004) and academic scholarships in Manchester, London, and Rome. She is the author of three books, editor of several monographs, and has published over 80 articles and book chapters. Her textbooks Fundamentals of International Security: The Military Dimension and Armed Conflicts (Part I) and Fundamentals of International Security: The Non-Military Dimension (Part II) (2020) are widely used in Polish security studies programs.
Between 2018 and 2022, she served as Project Manager for a Ministry of Defence Research Grant on The Geopolitical, Military and Economic Security Dimensions of the Three Seas Region: Contemporaneity and Prospects and has contributed to numerous other research projects funded by Poland’s Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Foreign Affairs. She is also a certified coach through ICF training programs.
