STEER Programs and Initiatives
Events are held throughout the year to inspire, facilitate, and recognize the transformation of STEM education through the use of evidence-based practices.
Course Redesign
STEER provides course redesign support to STEM faculty interested including more evidence-based teaching in their courses. Up to 5 Faculty are funded every year to re-design their course to incorporate practices that research has shown to lead to better student engagement and learning (EBT).
Steering Online Success in STEM (SOS-STEM)
Faculty in each STEM department participated in a project to share the tips they learned as they converted their classes to online instruction over the recent past. Thirty-five faculty produced short videos of the strategies they employed and agreed to share their lessons learned with other STEM faculty.
Peer Observation Program (POP)
A team-based peer observation program for faculty. The focus is on collecting and sharing data in a non-evaluative way that benefits both the observer and the instructor being observed. Participants are placed in interdisciplinary teams of three where they observe each other's classes and provide feedback.
STEM Scholar Teaching Awards
This STEER award recognizes faculty excellence, innovation and effective use of student-centered teaching strategies to improve retention and student success in STEM disciplines.
STEM Speaker Series
Leading researchers on national reforms, institutional change and best evidence-based teaching (EBT) practices provide insights and add momentum for change in STEM education transformation at USF.
