Advising

Ashley Sowell was born and raised in Saint Petersburg, FL, and graduated from Florida State University with a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities and Art History and a Master of Arts in Arts Administration. Ashley has worked with Transfer Evaluations, Academic Records and Academic Advising. She has served on the Academic Regulations Committee and coordinated campus graduation processes. She has also completed and presented research on the effects of accelerated credit on the students major selection. Ashley came to the USF in 2011 as an academic advisor on the Sarasota-Manatee campus where she advised graduate and undergraduate students. Ashley joined the Chemistry department in August 2016.  In her free time, Ashley enjoys reading, music, travel, movies and football.Ashley currently advises students in the Medical Technology, Interdisciplinary Natural Sciences, Chemistry B.S., Chemistry B.A., and Chemistry B.A. Biochemistry emphasis majors.

Maeleesa Strong is a central Florida native who was raised in Lake Wales. After completing high school, she attended and graduated from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Development, followed by a Master of Arts degree in Educational Leadership: Higher Education/Student Personnel. Since elementary school, Maeleesa has always had a strong passion for education. She began her professional career as a teacher’s aide, which then led to her becoming a certified classroom teacher for five years. While teaching, Maeleesa also spent time coaching girls JV volleyball, cross country, girls weightlifting, and girls JV basketball at her alma mater, Lake Wales Senior High School. Maeleesa recently began her career in Academic Advising here at USF in March of 2020 working with the Department of Chemistry as a Biomedical Sciences advisor. In her spare time, Maeleesa loves watching football and basketball, listening to music, watching Food Network, and spending time with family and friends.
