Dr. Perez earned her Ph.D. in Women’s Studies at the University of Maryland. Her teaching and research interests lie at the intersections of the fields of Gender and Women’s Studies and Latin+ Studies. Professor Perez’s areas of focus are theories of race & racialization, Chicana feminist theory, and Latin+ beauty cultures. Her previous research explored Mexican and Mexican American beauty practices through an examination of social media & popular culture discourses. Professor Perez’s approach to teaching and mentoring is holistic and student-centered with a focus on student success & empowerment. She joins us from Minnesota State University- where she taught courses on Violence & Gender, Gender and Popular Culture and Feminist Pedagogy.
