BIO
Christine McCarty is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Zimmerman School of Advertising & Mass Communications at the University of South Florida, specializing in advertising creativity, graphic design, and visual communication. She earned her M.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of South Florida and her B.F.A. in Graphic Design from the University of Central Florida. Prior to her appointment at USF, she taught drawing, printmaking, and design courses across multiple institutions, cultivating a multidisciplinary approach that bridges fine art foundations with contemporary communication design. Professor McCarty also brings over a decade of experience as a practicing designer, consultant, and educator. Her creative and applied work explores the intersection of design, print culture, semiotics, and visual storytelling, with an emphasis on experimentation, material processes, and the ways visual communication shapes meaning and behavior. She is particularly interested in visual literacy, environmental graphics and signage, and design for social and public good. Her industry and interdisciplinary experience inform a teaching philosophy grounded in real-world application, conceptual rigor, and thoughtful craft. Professor McCarty is actively involved in professional and academic service, including serving as faculty advisor to USF’s student chapter of the American Advertising Federation.
