Nora Jane Long is a filmmaker, writer, and interdisciplinary artist whose work spans documentary, narrative, commercial, and experimental production. She holds an MFA in Film and Television from the Savannah College of Art and Design and a BS in Film & Video Production, with a minor in Theatre Performance, from Stevenson University.
Long teaches courses in documentary production, cinematography, and short-form storytelling, with a creative and research focus on environmental and social-impact storytelling.
Over the past decade, Long has built a diverse filmography as a director, cinematographer, and producer, working across genres and formats. Her recent directing credits include The Flowerkeeper (2025), Dear One (2025), and No Two Plants (2024), alongside PBS productions Attention, Please! (2025), Bite by Bite (2024), and High Water Marks (2023). In recent years, her films have screened at festivals worldwide, including the Maryland Film Festival, Rhode Island International Film Festival, American Documentary and Animation Film Festival, as well as festivals in Paris, Sweden, and Ukraine. Her work has earned her Southeastern Emmy nominations for Best Director and Best Editing, along with recognition including a NETA Public Media Award, a Southern Exposure Film Fellowship, and artist residencies with Creative Liberties, Vermont Studio Center, and Creekside Arts.
In addition to teaching, Long is an active voice in the documentary community. She is a member of Filmshop and the International Documentary Association. She also serves on the Documentary Producer's Alliance Film Festival Committee and as a juror for Jackson Wild Film Festival and the Reel Equals Film Festival.
Long continues to mentor emerging filmmakers while producing work that bridges artistic innovation with technical craft across the evolving media landscape.
