Dr. Hordge-Freeman Book Launch

The Institute on Black Life and Institute for the Study of Latin America and the Caribbean will host the launch of Dr. Elizabeth Hordge-Freeman's new book, "Second-Class Daughters: Black Brazilian Women and Informal Adoption as Modern Slavery.” The event will feature a short presentation followed by a discussion with the author. The book will be available for purchase at the event, with time for Dr. Hordge-Freeman to sign copies of the book.


About Dr. Hordge-Freeman: 

Hordge-Freeman

Dr. Hordge-Freeman, a Tampa native, is an Associate Professor and Associate Department Chair in the Department of Sociology at Rice University. She previously served as an Associate Professor of Sociology and Interim Associate Vice Provost for Faculty Recruitment, Retention, and Engagement at the University of South Florida. She earned her B.A. from Cornell University and her M.A. and Ph.D. in Sociology from Duke University.

In 2016, Dr. Hordge-Freeman was selected as a Fulbright Scholar and conducted research in Brazil, further advancing her scholarship on race, family, and social inequality. To learn more about Dr. Hordge-Freeman and her work, visit her biography page.
