Tampa Emancipation Day Celebration

In collaboration with the USF Racial Justice Initiative and Tampa Bay Housing Authority,  The Tampa Bay History Center will honor the perseverance and accomplishments of Tampa’s Black Pioneers. On May 6, 2025, Tampa will be celebrating the emancipation of its formerly enslaved population on May 6, 1864. The event will feature a special ceremony honoring Tampa's historical black public schools, as well as a lite bites and refreshments. It is an event you don't want to miss.

The program will highlight a special reading of the Emancipation Proclamation by several dignitaries.

Join us in celebrating this momentous day in Tampa's Black History and reconnect with the community roots while making new memories.

6:30 - 6:45pm Welcome with Music and Refreshments
6:45 - 7:45 pm Program to include: Invocation, Musical Performances, Occasion, Reading of the Emancipation Proclamation, Spoken Word, and Lectures
7:45 - 8:00 pm Closing Music with DJ
