Al Duchnowski retired from USF Spring 2012 and was granted the status of Professor Emeritus. He has a doctorate in clinical child psychology with a minor concentration in special education. He served as Co-Director of the nationally recognized Research and Training Center for Children's mental health that operated over a period of 25 years and received $15 million in federal funding. As part of the Center, he oversaw the annual research conference which became nationally known for its excellence in providing research leadership.

Previously, Dr. Duchnowski was Director of Special Education for a school district in Pennsylvania. He has numerous publications in professional journals and has co-edited three books on children's mental health. He has been Principal Investigator on several federal grants investigating issues related to children who have emotional disabilities and their families, school reform, and evidence-based interventions. He is one of the founders of the Federation of Families for Children's Mental Health.
