Participating in Commencement will be the easiest step in your doctoral process.
- Doctoral candidates should complete a formal check with the Office of Graduate Studies and follow any graduation requirements set forth by your department/college. Candidates who complete the formal check and are confirmed will have their name printed in the Commencement program regardless of whether they attend the ceremony.
- Candidates must RSVP for Commencement. After you RSVP, additional instructions for doctoral candidates and their major professors will be emailed prior to the ceremony. There is no fee to attend Commencement other than the cost of regalia.
- Candidates should place their order for doctoral regalia through the USF Bookstore. You have choices on whether to rent, partially purchase, or fully purchase the regalia. See Regalia page for more details.
Students earning the highest academic degree at a Commencement ceremony are hooded by their major professor during that ceremony.
For Tampa campus ceremonies, only Doctoral students are hooded. For other USF campus ceremonies, Masters students are also hooded.
Students that will be hooded will carry their hood with them into the ceremony. For the hooding, the student faces the audience as the professor places the academic hood of their head to their shoulders.
The process is not complicated, but your attention is requested to insure that the hooding proceeds gracefully and professionally. Please view a sample of hooding
Your name will only be in ceremony program if you apply to graduate before the published deadline.
The USF Commencement ceremonies will be livestreamed via a webcast on our website for guests who are unable to attend Commencement in person.
