Self-Assessments

Understanding how you respond to conflict can be a powerful first step toward more effective communication, stronger relationships, and better outcomes. Self-assessments offer a structured way to reflect on your instincts, habits, and patterns—often surfacing insights that are difficult to see on your own.

Whether you’re simply curious or looking for deeper personal development, the options below provide different levels of exploration: This FREE assessment from the Niagara Institute offers a snapshot of your natural tendencies in conflict situations. You’ll learn which approaches you gravitate toward and how those tendencies may show up in everyday interactions.

conflict dynamics profile

The Conflict Dynamics Profile (CDP) is unlike any other assessment tool in that it focuses specifically on conflict behaviors, rather than styles. It helps individuals and teams understand how they respond to conflict, what triggers can escalate conflict, and how to manage conflict more effectively.

Two versions of the instrument—the CDP-Individual (CDP-I) and CDP-360— emphasize an action-oriented approach which leads to real improvement. A thorough Development Guide provides information and tips for coping with conflict and building strong interpersonal relationships.

As certified CDP coaches, the Student Ombuds Team helps individuals and teams understand how they manage conflict in their organization. We offer workshops for students and staff who wish to open up the door for effective conversations about acceptable responses to conflict and hot button triggers. Teams learn how certain behaviors might inadvertently trigger irritation in their colleagues, as well as how to avoid pushing these hot buttons. Workshops may include optional individual and group assessments that measure constructive behaviors, destructive behaviors, and hot buttons
