The Student Ombuds team offers a range of interactive workshops designed to build conflict engagement skills and increase understanding of how our office can support your community. Sessions can be adapted for students, staff, and faculty.

We are also happy to partner with you to design a customized workshop tailored to your team’s goals, challenges, and context.

What is an Ombuds – An overview of the Student Ombuds Office, including our role, guiding principles, and how we support the university community. Participants will also learn when and how to make referrals and explore opportunities for collaboration.

Healthy Conflict Engagement – conflict, when managed well, can be healthy and productive. Learn skills and approaches to keep conflict task centered and learn communication strategies to reduce the likelihood of escalation or negative outcomes.

Conflict Dynamics Profile and Coaching for Teams and Individuals -- The Conflict Dynamics Profile (CDP) is unlike any other assessment tool in that it focuses specifically on conflict behaviors, rather than styles. It helps individuals and teams understand how they respond to conflict, what triggers can escalate conflict, and how to manage conflict more effectively.

Two versions of the instrument—the CDP-Individual (CDP-I) and CDP-360— emphasize an action-oriented approach which leads to real improvement. A thorough Development Guide provides information and tips for coping with conflict and building strong interpersonal relationships.

As certified CDP coaches, the Student Ombuds Team helps individuals and teams understand how they manage conflict in their organization. We offer workshops for students and staff who wish to open up the door for effective conversations about acceptable responses to conflict and hot button triggers. Teams learn how certain behaviors might inadvertently trigger irritation in their colleagues, as well as how to avoid pushing these hot buttons. Workshops may include optional individual and group assessments that measure constructive behaviors, destructive behaviors, and hot buttons.
