Although the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs (OPA) can process loan deferment forms
and submit them to the loan guaranteeing agency for review, it is the agency who is
responsible for determining if the postdoctoral appointment meets its deferral criteria.
The postdoctoral scholar should print the forms from the loan agency's website, complete,
sign, and submit them to the OPA for review of postdoctoral status. Please include
an addressed stamped envelope made out to the loan agency. The OPA will mail the form
directly to the agency. Since these documents contain Social Security information,
they will not be emailed or faxed. If the postdoctoral scholar wishes to receive a
copy, they will need to include a self addressed, stamped envelope or provide the
campus mail code of where to send the copy.
