Coffee & Conversation - Work/Life Balance

(Postdocs ONLY)
Date & Time: 9/18 - 8:30am-10am 

Format: In Person in ALN296 (Tampa campus) and Virtual (via Teams

Description: Participate in our Mental Wellness Monday session on work/life balance, and foster connection and discuss personal experiences, tips, and effective strategies with your peers. Join virtually or in-person as an active participant or just to listen and reflect.

Coffee and a light breakfast will be provided for in-person attendees starting at 8:30am and the discussion will begin at 9am.

Paws & Relax - Therapy Pet Event

Description: Come celebrate the first day of National Postdoc Appreciation Week in the company of therapy pets from Project Pup at this in-person event designed to promote relaxation and social interaction!

Description:  
Interviewing Part 1: Preparing to make a great impression during an interview and bridge the gap between application and job offer can feel overwhelming. The interview is crucial to the career exploration and transition process.

The aim of this workshop is to provide a toolkit for all participants to understand how to prepare for the interview and create a positive first impression, how to respond to common interview questions, how to ask thoughtful questions, and ultimately wow your interviewer(s).

Description: Join us and our invited guest Kam Talley from the USF Center for Student Well-Being as she discusses the importance of prioritizing your health and wellness during your postdoc. She'll discuss the importance of sleep, physical health, and overall general wellness in this engaging presentation that is sure to provide you with practical knowledge and guidance.

Scientific Film Series [Moffitt Postdoc Association]

Date & Time: 9/20 - 4-5pm 

Format: Hybrid 

Description: This film screening and discussion is hosted by the Moffitt Postdoctoral Association, Enterprise Equity, and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs.

Not The Science Type gets to the heart of access and gender inequity in STEM education and STEM fields. This four-part docuseries features four female scientists who are challenging stereotypes and confronting gender, racial and age discrimination as they rise to prominence. 

After screening the film, Enterprise Equity and the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs will facilitate a discussion about the themes in the film and the future of inclusive science. Refreshments will be provided for those who attend in-person.

Career Talk Seminar [Moffitt Postdoc Association]

Description: This seminar with Q&A features Dr. Fanuel Muindi, Founder and Chief Resident of the SAi Resident Collective, a non-profit incubator that funds emerging civic science scholars and founders to launch new initiatives that connect people to science around the world.
He is currently the inaugural Lasker Fellow for Civic Science at Research!America where he is leading a project to build a new dashboard to visualize the landscape of civic science training initiatives in the US. A neuroscientist by training, Dr. Muindi earned his PhD from Stanford University, and completed his postdoctoral training at MIT.  

Dr. Muindi will share about his career path and experiences, and participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussion about careers in civic science.
