CAS students are helping to catalogue artifacts, correspondence, photographs and other material that will lead to a permanent museum exhibition on the life, works and teachings of the Nobel Peace Prize recipient.

CAS student selected as NOAA Hollings Scholar
Second-year USF College of Arts and Sciences student Mckenzie Newbern will intern with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration in summer 2027 after building a solid foundation working on oyster restoration projects in the Tampa Bay region.

Artemis II launch reveals unique seismic activity captured by USF scientists
One participant in the first 2016 deployment was CAS alum Jacob Richardson, now the deputy lunar science lead on the Artemis II lunar science team. His group has spent more than a year preparing observation strategies, including potential views of unexplored regions on the moon’s far side.

Chemistry professor receives highest professional distinction accorded to medical, biological engineers
The American Institute for Medical and Biological Engineering (AIMBE) inducted Distinguished University Professor Bill Baker of the Department of Chemistry to its College of Fellows during a formal ceremony held in Arlington, Va. on April 13.

The College of Arts and Sciences named David Arbesú the 2026-2028 Edward DeBartolo Endowed Chair, recognizing the tenured professor of medieval and golden age Spanish for his active scholarship and engaged teaching.

Preserving a century: USF partnership brings Tampa Theatre history to centennial exhibition
In collaboration with USF Libraries and the Tampa Theatre, the Institute for Digital Exploration has completed the 3D digitization of the theater’s surviving original furniture and decorative pieces. These newly captured digital assets will be on display at a special exhibition at the Tampa Bay History Center celebrating the theater’s 100th anniversary.

Two USF students named 2026 Goldwater Scholars
Diya Upadhyaya of the College of Arts and Sciences has been awarded the nation’s highest honor for undergraduate STEM research, the Goldwater Scholarship. Continuing its remarkable research growth, USF has now produced at least one Goldwater Scholar every year since 2018.
