Diversity Statement

The School of Interdisciplinary Global Studies (SIGS) is composed of a highly diverse set of faculty, students, and staff who come together to critically analyze the world around us and work to improve it. Offering degree programs in Africana Studies, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Political Science, and International Studies, SIGS scholars are united behind our mission to critically examine and teach “Citizenship, Identity, and Justice in a Global Context.” We, the SIGS faculty, stand committed to unearthing and dismantling inherited systems of oppression, including institutional racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, and transphobia, in American society and throughout the world.  Through our teaching, scholarship, and community engagement activities, we seek to provide an anti-racist, inclusive, and comprehensive education to our students and the broader Tampa Bay community. By exposing the flawed foundations of bigoted ideas and practices, we strive to foster a sense of belonging among our students and to equip them with the knowledge and skills necessary to build a more just and equitable world.
