Ann Marie Gunn, Ph.D.
Gunn is a Full Professor in Literacy Studies in the College of Education and a former K-12 classroom teacher with ten years of experience.
Her research, teaching and scholarship focus on three broad areas: (1) Literacy Practices in the Community outside of school contexts, such as prisons, museums and afterschool centers. (2) Literacy Pedagogy in Teacher Education, emphasizing issues, strategies and tools that influence preservice and in-service teachers' practices, and (3) Literacy Instruction in PreK-12 Classrooms, including social-emotional learning, resilience and literacy development.
She has an extensive record of publications in peer-reviewed journals and books, as well as presentations at international and national conferences focused on culturally responsive literacy practices in teacher education and PreK-higher education. Her work has appeared in high-impact journals, such as the Journal of Childhood Teacher Education and The Reading Teacher.
Gunn has numerous international, national and local conference presentations including the American Educational Research Association (AERA) and the Literacy Research Association (LRA). To support her research and scholarly work, she has received funding from many organizations including the National Science Foundation, Florida State Appropriations, the University of South Florida and local organizations. In recognition of her contributions she has been honored with awards for excellence in teaching and research from several organizations including AERA and USF.
