LaSonya L. Moore, Ed.D.
Moore is a dedicated and driven change agent in the field of education, focused on advancing meaningful reforms in educational institutions that serve urban students. Her research delves into the factors influencing teacher persistence, particularly in high-poverty, low-performing schools.
Moore co-founded the National Urban Special Education Leadership Network (NUSELNET), a prominent national platform for educational leaders specializing in special education and leadership. She is committed to improving educational outcomes for all students, with particular attention to those with exceptionalities, while fostering better opportunities for educators and leaders who work closely with students. Her recent scholarly work has addressed educator persistence and retention, the development of a robust urban teacher and leader pipeline and creating responsive, relevant classroom environments. Additionally, Moore holds a State Principalship certification.
Moore teaches undergraduate and graduate education courses, and she actively serves K-12 schools through speeches and workshops designed for various educational stakeholders, including students, teachers, assistant principals, principals and district leaders. Her professional achievements have been recognized through multiple awards and fellowships, such as the 2017 Florida Administrator of the Year, the 2018 College of Education Faculty Member of Service Award and the 2019-2020 McKnight Junior Faculty Development Fellowship, awarded by the Florida Education Foundation in partnership with the University of South Florida.
