Shannon Suldo, Ph.D.
Suldo is a Professor of School Psychology and a Licensed Psychologist (PY #7704, Florida) at the University of South Florida. She is also Co-Executive Director of the School Mental Health Collaborative (SMHC): Research, Training, and Technical Assistance Center within the College of Education. She graduated with a Ph.D. in School Psychology from the University of South Carolina in 2004. She completed a pre-doctoral internship in Pediatric Psychology at the Kennedy Krieger Institute/Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. In 2007, she completed post-doctoral clinical work in Hillsborough County Public Schools, where she provided comprehensive mental health services (individual, group and family counseling; teacher consultation; classroom management) to adolescents identified as having emotional and/or behavioral disorders. Her research interests include positive psychology applied to youth, including children and adolescents’ subjective well-being (e.g., positive indicators of well-being and a dual-factor model of mental health, interventions to promote students' subjective well-being, how adolescents' mental health is influenced by parent-child and student-teacher relationships), the social-emotional functioning of high school students participating in accelerated curricula such as Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) programs and the provision of evidence-based school mental health services in a multi-tiered framework. She is an Associate Editor of School Mental Health, and on the editorial boards of Journal of School Psychology, Journal of Happiness Studies and Journal of Psychoeducational Assessment.
Her research on youth subjective well-being is summarized in her 2016 book “Promoting Student Happiness: Positive Psychology Interventions in Schools,” available as a print or e-book through Guilford Press.
Her research on best practices in school mental health service delivery flowing from a dual-factor model of mental health is reflected in her 2021 co-authored edited book, “Fostering the Emotional Well-Being of Our Youth: A School-Based Approach,” available as a print or e-book through Oxford University Press.
Her expertise on positive psychology research and practice in school-age youth is reflected in her 2022 co-authored edited book, “Handbook of Positive Psychology in Schools: Supporting Process and Practice (3rd edition),” available as a print or e-book through Routledge/Taylor & Francis.
