The University of South Florida continues to monitor impacts of Hurricane Ian to our region and our community. The safety of our students, faculty and staff remains our highest priority as we develop our reopening plans.

Since Thursday morning USF staff members have been working to survey buildings on all our campuses to assess the readiness for return. Fortunately, our campuses did not suffer significant damage.

Business operations and all classes, including online classes, will resume on Monday, Oct. 3. USF staff are working to restore select on-campus services, including housing, dining and recreational facilities, beginning on Friday. Hours of operation for all on-campus facilities will be updated with other FAQs here.

Only USF employees who are (1) classified as essential personnel, (2) identified by their supervisors as vital to campus operations or (3) working in a facility that is reopening before Monday should report to work prior to normal business operations resuming on Monday, in consultation with their supervisors. Employees who do not fall into these categories are not expected to work, remotely or otherwise, until Monday. Please contact your supervisor if you are unsure of your status.

Faculty and researchers who wish to come back to campus to assess lab space will be able to do so once the readiness check is complete. Additional guidance will be provided by the Provost’s Office and USF Health.

USF residence halls on the Tampa campus are open. Residential students on the Tampa campus who left campus for the storm may begin to return today. Residence halls on the St. Petersburg campus will reopen at noon on Friday, Sept 30. St. Petersburg residential students who were relocated to Tampa during the storm have been transported back to St. Petersburg.

USF Health clinical facilities will reopen on Friday, Sept. 30. Anyone with questions can call the USF Health appointments hotline at 813-821-8038.

Students who left the region because of the storm and won’t be able to return in time for Monday’s classes should notify their instructors as soon as possible. Employees who left the region and won’t be able to return by Monday should notify supervisors as soon as possible. Faculty members and supervisors are asked to be patient and understanding with their students and staff during these unique circumstances.  More information and resources from USF Human Resources can be found here.

If there are any further significant updates regarding the university’s operating status, they will be provided via usf.edu, USF’s official social media channels, MyUSF and email.
