USF has revealed a first look at the university’s transformational on-campus stadium by releasing three renderings of the new facility and announced a $6 million gift from the USF Federal Credit Union. A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for fall 2024.
The Florida Board of Governors voted in favor of the financing plan for the University of South Florida’s new on-campus stadium, signaling state-level support for the transformational facility scheduled to open in fall 2026.
Along with serving thousands of students from around Tampa Bay, the new class of students represents 46 states and 139 countries, an indicator that USF brings the top talent from across Florida, the nation and the world to the region.
An internationally recognized stem cell researcher studying glaucoma, a highly regarded marine scientist, a leader in the field of risk management and insurance and experts across a wide range of other disciplines are among the approximately 225 new full-time faculty members joining USF this fall.

Newsweek ranks the university as one of America’s greatest workplaces for 2023. USF is the only university in Florida to appear on the list and one of only a small group of colleges and universities nationwide to be ranked.

USF placed third overall in the state’s performance-based funding standings, which measure universities on a series of student success-based metrics. Since the state implemented the performance-based funding model in 2014, USF is the only university to finish in the top four every year.

The approved plan includes financing for an estimated 35,000-seat facility that is scheduled to open by fall 2026. The stadium will be built on the east side of the Tampa campus on a site known as Sycamore Fields, providing synergy with the ongoing expansion of the USF Athletics district.
The Florida Legislature reached agreement on a state budget for the 2023-24 fiscal year that includes transformational increases in recurring operational funding and new investments in several significant projects for the University of South Florida. The budget builds on last year’s record-breaking legislative session for USF.
