25 years later, astronomy professor gets second chance to witness total solar eclipse
Astronomy Professor of Instruction Kevin MacKay was determined to make his upcoming road trip better than the one in 1999 when he took a group of students to England to see a total solar eclipse. Moments before the big event, clouds rolled in, obstructing their view. Although it was a great experience, he always wanted to try it again.

Physics research team brings portable renewable energy source to rural sub-Saharan Africa
Under a National Science Foundation (NSF) supported grant, a team of researchers from the USF College of Arts and Sciences Department of Physics have been engaged in a multi-year research project to develop a portable renewable energy source for people living in rural sub-Sahara Africa.

USF-BOTSWANA COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH PROJECT TO DEVELOP A PORTABLE ENERGY SOURCE FOR RURAL AFRICA
Eight undergraduate seniors and juniors from the University of South Florida (USF) have been selected for a challenging and rewarding research program funded by the National Science Foundation. The objective of the project is to develop a renewable energy source based on a novel scientific concept, with the goal of making basic commodities accessible to rural and tribal villages in Africa.
