Bio

Jongseok Woo is an assistant professor of political science at the University of South Florida. He earned his MA (2004) and Ph. D. (2007) in Government from the University of Texas at Austin. He specializes in international security, military politics, East Asian security, and political corruption. He has (co)authored three books: Security Challenges and Military Politics in East Asia: From State Building to Post-Democratization (Bloomsbury, 2011), Politics in North and South Korea: Political Development, Economy, and Foreign Relations (Routledge, 2018), and Political Corruption and Democratic Governance (Lexington/Rowman & Littlefield, 2018). His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Contemporary Politics, Pacific Focus, International Journal of Comparative Sociology, Communist and Post-Communist Studies, Korea Observer, Japanese Journal of Political Science, Issues & Studies, and Problems of Post-Communism. He is currently writing a book on military and politics in North Korea. At USF, he teaches graduate and undergraduate courses on international security, military politics, East Asian politics, Asian security, conflict in the world, and Korean politics and society.
