Research

My research interests include environmental politics, Latin American politics, critical agrarian studies, and the political economy of development. I am particularly interested in the politics of nationalism and extractivism from a Latin American perspective. My ongoing work examines the politics of resource nationalism in Mexico as applied to mining and hydrocarbons industries in the context of neoliberal reforms and thereafter. Relatedly, I have written about the intersection of indigenous identity politics and anti-extractive movements. I am also interested in the politics of seed saving and biodiversity governance, particularly global trends in seed legislation that erode farmers’ rights to save and replant seeds.
