Sara Barnard Flory, Ph.D.

Sara Barnard Flory, Ph.D., is a professor and program coordinator whose research focuses on preparing physical education teachers to create inclusive and engaging learning experiences.

Flory is a Professor and the Undergraduate Program Coordinator for Physical Education Teacher Education. She received her master’s degree in Secondary Education and her doctorate in Kinesiology from Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan. Sara received her Bachelor’s of Science degree in Movement Science and Athletic Training from the University of Michigan.

During her graduate studies, Flory worked as a graduate research assistant for two large-scale grant programs, the Detroit Healthy Youth Initiative, and Generation with Promise. Both programs focused on improving health and physical education programs in public schools.

Her research interests have to do with preparing current and future physical education teachers to work with a variety of students and communities, and providing curricular models and physical activity programming that are engaging and meaningful. 

Flory’s teaching responsibilities include secondary instructional design and content courses, internship experiences as well as teaching in the graduate physical education and teacher education programs.
