Strategic Areas of Focus

The Global and National Security Institute will organize its efforts into three Strategic Areas of Focus, which overlap, interact, and impact one another:

  • 1) Science and Technology
  • 2) Human Dynamics and Social Behavior
  • 3) Cybersecurity.

Today’s national security environment is increasingly complex and covers whole-of-society problems such as extremism, chemical and biological weapons threats, climate change, disinformation, transnational crime, and cybercrime. This environment is not only serviced by science and technology but is driven by them via human dynamics. As a result, advances in areas such as artificial intelligence, robotics, extended reality, quantum computing, and biometrics, and their interaction with social behavior, will require national security policymakers to understand human and technological complexities never before considered.
