What I Wish I Knew My First Year in College: Be careful with Student Loans and do not borrow more money than you need. This next piece of advice may seem contradictory to my first piece of advice, but I would recommend studying abroad if at all possible. It can give you a fresh perspective not only on your academic studies but the world at large. This experience helped me develop new levels of independence and self-confidence. Look at all the different opportunities and methods of funding before counting this experience out. And lastly, I wish someone would have shared this quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson earlier in life. “To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”
