Research in Theatre & Dance

Your passion for theatre/dance fuels your curiosity about the world around you. Research provides the space for you to follow it. What will you find? Questions, answers, new friends and mentors, and new knowledge to the field? Let’s explore!

Research broadens and deepens the scope of education at the University of South Florida. It fosters interdisciplinary collaboration and innovation and expands your perspective. Investigate a topic that interests you. Use your medium to address important contemporary issues. Study and show how the arts, humanities and sciences come together to spark discourse and promote civic engagement. As you discover new ways of expression, you will grow creatively, intellectually, and professionally.

Students at the School of Theatre & Dance engage in research by working with faculty on projects and in productions. Guest artists invited by the school enhance the creative activity.

Today, USF is one of only 40 public research universities nationwide with very high research activity that is designated as community-engaged by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. The USF Office of Research & Innovation provides additional resources for students and faculty to help support and fund ideas and research work. Undergraduates at the university are encouraged to take advantage of a wide range of research opportunities. The Office of Undergraduate Research provides support to students engaged in undergraduate research and teaches students about the expectations and privileges associated with undergraduate research. The College of The Arts also provides information about opportunities, awards and funding sources for students to conduct their own research or develop a vision into a performance piece.
