Mentor Program Orientation, September 23rd
The University of South Florida English Graduate Mentorship Program, sponsored by the English Graduate Student Association, fosters a network of support for undergraduate and graduate English majors, with emphasis on professionalizing individuals to succeed in current academic pursuits and beyond. The goal of the mentorship program is to inspire membership into the profession of English by providing guidance, direction, and motivation to our young professionals. Our mission begins with undergraduate retention and completion, encourages internship, considers graduate study, and continues with career success.
Coffee with the Professors, October 5th
The English Undergraduate Mentor Program kicked off the semester with its first Coffee with the Professors event. Coffee and cookies were enjoyed by all! Faculty in attendance were Dr. Nate Johnson, Dr. Cynthia Patterson, and Dr. Heather Sellers. Discussion topics ranged from the unique opportunities afforded to undergraduate English majors at USF to the marketability of a degree in English.
Tea with the Mentors, October 19th
The English Undergraduate Mentor Program hosted its first Tea with the Mentors event in CPR 343. Undergraduate and graduate students form all three tracks were in attendance. Conversations about professional opportunities afforded by graduate work occurred among the attendees.
Coffee with the Professors, November 2nd
The English Undergraduate Mentor Program hosted its second Coffee with the Professors event. Students from all three tracks contributed to the awesome turnout! Faculty in attendance were Dr. Nhu Le, Dr. Nicole Discenza, and Dr. Emily Jones. Topics of discussion included undergraduate and graduate school experiences, as well as advice for applications to MA and PhD programs.
Cupcake Social, November 9th
The English Undergraduate Mentor Program hosted its first Cupcake Social! Students enjoyed sweet treats and good conversation as they decorated cupcakes in CPR 343. A prize was even awarded for the best cupcake! Stay tuned for future events from the Mentor Program.
