BIO

Nancy Barr joined the USF team in 2022 after 15 years at Michigan Technological University, where she founded and directed the Engineering Communications Program in the Department of Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics. Barr was inducted into MTU’s Academic of Teaching Excellence in 2021, an honor bestowed upon faculty by students and colleagues. Her research has focused on team dynamics in engineering design teams and communication assessment. A former newspaper reporter and editor, she is the author of the Page One mystery trilogy and an award-winning short story, “Peace.” She is also secretary to the IEEE Professional Communication Society Board of Governors and a licensed Emergency Medical Technology (NREMT). She earned her master's and Ph.D. in rhetoric and technical communication from Michigan Tech and a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Lake Superior State University.
