BIO

Trey Conner is committed to linking students with worthy local causes to improve the community. Conner forms community partnerships that empower youth and provide service-learning opportunities for USF St. Petersburg students. In his classrooms, he introduces students to the rituals of writing, ranging from contemplative practices to distributed authorship and collaborative writing. In his own work, he writes about the function of chanting, song, and rhythm in diverse global rhetorical and poetic traditions. Further research interests include healing, permaculture, community literacy, digital writing and the rhetorics of science and technology.

Conner’s experimental digital book “Wyrd to the Wiki: Lacunae Toward Wiki Ontologies” was published by the Open Humanities Press. Conner’s scholarship has also appeared in the Journal of Technical Writing and Communication and in Higher Education, Emerging Technologies, and Community Partnerships: Concepts, Models, and Practices. Conner co-edited a Journal of Business and Technical Communication special issue on Design Thinking. His grant work includes a Learn Serve America grant and a Linux-based community literacy grant. His current projects include a book chapter for “The Routledge Comparative Rhetoric Handbook” and a book chapter for “Responding to the Sacred.”

Conner teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in rhetorical traditions, public rhetorics, multimodal composition, client and civic communication, and writing in new media. He is a member of the Youth Farm at Enoch Davis vision team and Steering Committee, has served as faculty advisor to several generations of writing clubs, and currently advises the Garden Club and the Korean Pop Music Club. Conner has been an active performing and recording musician his whole life, and continues to play music in diverse ensembles and settings, in the classroom and beyond.
