Why keeping your cat indoors saves birds

08/06/26 — Domestic cats that roam outdoors can seriously harm local wildlife because their natural hunting instincts make them effective predators of birds and small animals. According to Dr. Deby Cassill, an associate professor of Integrative Biology at the University of South Florida, free-roaming cats can disrupt the established balance of ecosystems by acting as invasive predators.
