Overview

The Department of Integrative Biology (IB) is a leading academic unit at the University of South Florida's College of Arts & Sciences. Spanning the Tampa, St. Petersburg, and Sarasota-Manatee campuses, we are home to more than 1,500 undergraduate students, 40 graduate students, and 34 faculty members including 27 actively engaged in research.

Our department is supported by a dedicated team that helps drive the goals of a dynamic wide-ranging academic unit. Our faculty continually refine and innovate course curriculum by introducing new electives, integrating research-based teaching practices, and shaping courses that reflect the evolving landscape of biological science. The department plays a central role in advancing USF’s research mission, expanding student opportunities beyond graduation, and contributing to meaningful scientific progress.

Tampa Campus

Primarily housed in the Science Center (SCA), Biological Sciences Facility (BSF), and Interdisciplinary Sciences Building (ISA), the department combines classroom instruction, laboratory research, and field-based experiences to support undergraduate and graduate education while advancing scientific discovery.

St. Petersburg Campus

The Biology team is housed in the DAV building on the St. Petersburg campus, where waterfront views and a vibrant cultural scene create an inspiring environment for learning. Just steps from world-class museums and community resources, this location supports a dynamic academic experience. Faculty are dedicated to student success and drive innovative, interdisciplinary research at every level.

Sarasota-Manatee Campus

At Sarasota-Manatee Biology students benefit from an exceptional learning environment, surrounded by renowned institutions like Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, Selby Gardens, and other world-class destinations.
