The Integrative Biology department offers BSC 4940: Biology Internship.
This course allows you to gain 3 hours of USF credit for your internship experience and will meet the High Impact Practie requirement for the Enhanced Gen-Eds.

Biology students can earn up to 4 credits of experiential learning toward their Biology Major Electives.

• Since the BSC 4940 class is 3 credit hours, students can only earn 1 credit of BSC 4910: Undergraduate Research in addition to this experience.
• A student who has earned 4 credits of BSC 4910, cannot use BSC 4940 toward their major electives, but it can still be used toward their High Impact Practice requirement or Upper-Level Elective requirement (42 Hour Rule).

In order to be eligible to enroll in BSC 4940 and receive credit for your internship, you must meet the following requirements:

1. You must have an internship lined up for the semester in which you wish to gain credit.
   • Internship credit cannot be used on past internship experiences as the course requires you to complete activities as you are moving through the internship.
   • It is the student’s responsibility to apply for and be accepted into an internship prior to requesting this credit.
   • View the Biology Internship Review to discover internship opportunities other students have participated in. 
2. You must meet all of the following requirements:
   • You must have earned at minimum of 30 credit hours.
   • You must be in good academic standing (not on Academic Probation).
   • You must have a USF GPA of a 3.0 or above.
     • If you have a USF GPA below a 3.0, you must either submit the Faculty Reference Form with your application or a recommendation letter from a faculty member to override this requirement.
3. You will need to submit an application for review and be approved to enroll in this course.

**While being a Biology major is not required to earn BSC 4940 credit, Biology majors will be given preference for this type of credit.

Internships will be reviewed and approved based on the following criteria:

• The internship must be related to Biology, preferably your Biology Major.
• The internship must include meaningful and worthwhile activities, determined at the discretion of the department.
• The internship must require you to dedicate a minimum of 135 hours throughout the semester it is offered.
• The internship must agree to and sign the USF CAS Affiliation Agreement (Valid for 5 years).

Please keep in mind that meeting all of the above criteria does not guarantee approval for BSC 4940.

**For Summer 2024 Internship credit, you should submit the application by April 26th.
You can submit after this deadline, but students who submit prior to this date will have priority for seats in BSC 4940. BioAdvise will respond to all summer internship applicants by May 10th with a decision.

**For Fall 2024 Internship credit, you should submit the application by August 9th.
You can submit after this deadline, but students who submit prior to this date will have priority for seats in BSC 4940. BioAdvise will respond to all fall internship applicants by August 23rd with a decision.

The School of Geosciences offers an internship course, EVR 4940: Environmental Science Internship.

• EVR 4940 is required for graduation for students majoring in Environmental Science & Policy or Geography & GIS.
• EVR 4940 is restricted to students in these majors and students must complete the course in their final year. 

All students majoring in Environmental Science & Policy or Geography & GIS should complete the Internship Tutorial on Canvas as early as possible. The tutorial provides course details, recommendations for applying for internships, permitting and registration instructions, and recommended next steps for students based on their class standing.

Environmental Science & Policy and Geography & GIS students earn 3 credits toward their major core requirements.

• EVR 4940 is an online, 3-credit course taken while completing an internship.
• Students cannot modify the number of credits earned for this course.
• The internship must be completed at the same times as completion of the course.
• This course requires a series of assignments, projects, and group work, including daily journals with deadlines established by the course professor.
• EVR 4940 does not fulfill the High Impact Practice requirement for the Enhanced Gen-Eds.

In order to be eligible to enroll in EVR 4940 and receive credit for your internship, you must meet the following requirements:

1. You must meet all the following requirements:
   • You must be an Environmental Science & Policy or Geography & GIS major.
   • You must be in the final year of your degree. For example: If you plan to graduate in Fall 2024, you are eligible for EVR 4940 as early as Spring 2024.   
2. You must have an internship offer for the semester in which you wish to receive credit.
   • Internship credit cannot be used on past internship experiences as the course requires you to complete activities as you are moving through the internship.
   • It is the student’s responsibility to apply for and be accepted into an internship prior to requesting this credit.

3. After receiving an internship offer, you must submit an application for review and be approved to enroll in this course as instructed in the Internship Tutorial on Canvas.

Internships will be reviewed and approved based on the following criteria:

• The internship must be related to your major and career goals.
• The internship must include meaningful and worthwhile activities, determined at the discretion of the internship coordinators.
• The internship must require you to dedicate a minimum of 120 hours throughout the semester it is offered.
• The internship must overlap with a significant portion of the semester (defined as 10 weeks minimum in spring and fall, 6 weeks minimum in summer).

Please keep in mind that meeting all of the above criteria does not guarantee approval for EVR 4940.

**The priority deadline for submitting your internship application for credit is one week before the first day of class for the semester you intend to complete the course.

**Applications may be submitted after this deadline, but the School of Geosciences does not guarantee a review of late applications.

**Applications will not be reviewed if submitted after Thursday of the second week of class.

Medical Technology Majors (MET) must complete a 1-year hospital internship to complete their degree. 

You can find out more information regarding these internship on the MET Tech Application Process website. 

Please keep in mind, admission into these internships is not guarantee and requires students apply & be accepted. The Medical Technology advisors suggest that students have a back-up major, such as Biomedical Sciences (BMS) or Microbiology (MIC), in case they are not accepted to ensure they can graduate on-time.

Sometimes a student internship is valuable to a student's career goals but fails to meet the requirements to earn the above major-specific credit. For example, a Marketing Internship cannot be used to earn Biology Internship credit. 

In these cases, if a student still wishes to earn college credit for their internship they can request to add IDS 3947 through the Career Services Office.
