The Executive Director of the Florida Mental Health Institute (FMHI) reports to the Dean of the College of Behavioral and Community Sciences. The Director chairs FMHI's Executive Committee and ensures that FMHI's legislated mission is fulfilled. That mission involves activities such as:

Identifying state and national priorities relevant to research, training, education, and service activities
Planning for the effective utilization and enhancement of Institute-wide resources (expertise, workforce, and financial)
Developing innovative approaches to behavioral health services research
Addressing mentorship needs of early career faculty
Coordinating research infrastructure. Hosting an advanced statistics workshop (Think Tank)
Re-organizing FMHI's research library
