Systems Engineering

The University of South Florida’s Industrial and Management Systems Engineering depart-ment offers a fully online Graduate Certificate in Systems Engineering for individuals with techni-cal backgrounds. This certificate program offers both quantitative and qualitative approaches to strengthen systems engineering credentials.

The required and elective certificate courses as-sist engineers and professionals in strengthen-ing their knowledge to improve and support the performance of their organizations in the design, development and management of complex systems.

The curriculum includes coursework that cov-ers systems integration, project management, computer simulation, risk and decision analysis, and linear programming and network optimization.

Courses are offered on the Tampa campus and online. Students may pursue the graduate certificate only or may apply up to 12 credit hours to a graduate degree with departmental approval.

Course Requirements (12 Credit Hours)

This fully online graduate certificate consists of two core courses, and two elective courses for a total of 12 credit hours. Students pursuing a graduate certificate will be required to meet the same academic requirements as those defined for degree-seeking students to remain in good standing.

  • EIN 6935 - Systems Integration (3)
  • EIN 6145 - Project Management (3)
Elective courses (6 credit hours)

Choose two from the following:

  • ESI 6410 – Optimization methods with Apps (3)
  • EIN 5510 - Manufacturing Systems Analysis (3)
  • ESI 5522 - Computer Simulation (3)
  • ESI 6213 - Stochastic Decision Models I (3)
  • ESI 6247 - Statistical Design Models (3)
  • ESI 6491 - Linear Prgmng. & Network Optimization (3)
  • ESI 6324 - Engineering the Supply Chain (3)
  • EIN 6935 - Risk and Decision Analysis (3)
  • EIN 4601C – Automation and Robotics (3)

Admission/Application Requirements

Applicants must hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering or a related discipline from a regionally accredited institution. Please visit: https://www.usf.edu/graduate-studies/graduate-certificates/how-to-apply/index.aspx to apply online. In addition to the application forms please submit:

  1. Official transcripts
  2. A resume
  3. A 250-word letter of interest stating your objectives in pursuing this course of study
  4. Standardized Test Requirements
  5. Standardized tests are not required.

Registration Process

First, consult with the certificate program advisor and obtain an electronic course permit if necessary. Then, go to: www.usf.edu/graduate-studies/graduate-certificates/how-to-apply/course-registration.aspx. Follow the directions given online.

Time Limit

Courses must be completed within three years.

Financial Aid

Non-degree seeking students are not eligible for financial aid. However, private student loans may be available.

All students who wish to pursue approved graduate certificates must be admitted to a corresponding area of study before a second graduate certificate course is completed.

These graduate certificate courses may be applied to a Master of Science in Engineering Management degree contingent upon departmental approval. The department also offers graduate certificates in Technology Management, Total Quality Management, and Data Analytics.
