GEAR-UP
Hillsborough County Schools (GEAR-UP Program)
The Jim Walter Partnership Center was approved by the Hillsborough County School Board
on 4/21/15 to be a partner with the school system on a 6 year US Department of Education
GEAR-UP program.
The Hillsborough County GEAR-UP (Gaining Early Awareness and Readiness for Undergraduate
Programs) program was the only one funded in Florida this year by the US Department
of Education .
The Center will initially work with two cohorts of six graders at Eisenhower & Giunta Middle schools and continue with the students until they graduate from East Bay and Spoto High Schools. Working closely with Office of Community Engagement & Partnerships, student organizations and other USF staff & colleges, the center will coordinate USF resources with Hillsborough County Schools to provide outreach services, trainings and information to over 600 students and parents that will participate in the program.
