What is Federal Work Study (FWS)?

The Federal Work Study (FWS) award is processed by the University Scholarships and Financial Aid
Services office. Students with this award can work an FWS position to earn a paycheck that they can use
toward any of their expenses.

• This award is offered to students who meet certain FWS eligibility requirements, thus, not all
students are eligible for this type of opportunity.

• When filling out their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), students may select
they are interested in being considered for Federal Work Study. If the eligibility requirements are met, students may find the FWS award in OASIS as part of their financial aid package

• Students who receive an FWS award may opt to accept the award in OASIS. In order to receive
the money associated with the award, students must work in an FWS-funded
position. The CLCE has on-campus FWS funded positions in our offic and off-campus FWS funded positions wotj our community partners listed below.

• Once a student begins working in an FWS position, they will receive a bi-weekly paycheck that
can be used toward any expenses they may have. A common misconception is that money earned by working in an FWS position must be used toward tuition or other university-related fees. This is not true. The money a
student earns is deposited directly into the bank account of their choice, meaning that
they can use it in any way they wish.

• For more information about FWS, please visit University Scholarships and Financial Aid Services’
website.
