For Students

Elevated Risk Travel Request Process

Student-related travel to a destination designated by the U.S. Department of State as Level 3 – Reconsider Travel requires additional review and approval through USF World before travel may proceed.
Student-related travel to a Level 4 – Do Not Travel destination is not permitted.
The Elevated Risk Travel Request (ERTR) process is coordinated by the Global Travel Safety and Health (GTSH) team and is separate from the traveler’s regular Terra Dotta travel registration.

How the ERTR Process Works

When Level 3 travel is identified, three actions begin concurrently:
  • The traveler completes the ERTR.
  • The traveler’s academic leadership confirms awareness of and support for the proposed travel.
  • GTSH obtains destination-specific security and medical information from International SOS and other appropriate sources.
Once these materials are received, GTSH reviews the proposed travel, identifies relevant risks and mitigation measures, and makes a recommendation.
Additional review by offices such as Export Control, Student Health Services, or other subject-matter experts is requested only when the circumstances of the travel require it.
The completed ERTR and GTSH recommendation are then submitted to the Vice President for USF World for final review and decision.
The traveler and appropriate college or department leadership are notified when a decision has been made.

Important

Submission of an ERTR does not constitute approval to travel. Travelers should not consider Level 3 travel institutionally approved until the ERTR process is complete and final approval has been issued.
Approval may be reconsidered if there is a material change in the destination risk environment or proposed itinerary.
