Dr. M. Adelaida Restrepo, PhD, CCC-SLP (Laida) has been selected as chair and professor in the CBCS Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD). Dr. Restrepo will join CBCS from Arizona State University, where she was a professor in the Speech and Hearing Sciences Program and associate dean for research in the College of Health Solutions. She has also held roles at the University of Georgia and the Universidad de Antioquia, Medellín, Colombia. Dr. Restrepo is a Fulbright Fellow and ASHA Fellow.

Dr. Restrepo’s research focuses on bilingual language assessment and intervention in immigrant and underrepresented children. Her research on assessment has led to better identification of the language profiles of developmental delay in Spanish speakers and demonstrates that bilingual measures, although standardized in bilingual or minority children, are still biased and can lead to misidentification. Her research on language and reading intervention is focused on examining the language of intervention and how to maximize communication at home. Please join us in welcoming Dr. Restrepo to CBCS this August.
