Department of Criminology recognizes John Cochran's six years as chair

John Cochran

John Cochran, PhD, has served as chair of the Department of Criminology at USF for six years.

The Department of Criminology at USF recognizes John Cochran, PhD, for his six years of leadership as department chair. Cochran led the department through a pivotal period, including the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic and the unification of faculty across USF’s three campuses.

Despite the demands of his leadership role, Cochran remained a prolific scholar. During his tenure as chair, he published 34 journal articles and two book chapters. His scholarly achievements have earned him numerous accolades, including the William L. Simon/Routledge Outstanding Paper Award from the Academy of Criminal Justice Sciences. Cochran was also ranked among the top 1.5 percent of researchers worldwide, out of more than 6.8 million scholars across 22 fields and 176 subfields.

The department extends its sincere gratitude to Cochran for his leadership, dedication, and outstanding contributions.
